My neighbour irregularly puts an ad in the ViaVia to sell second hand bicycles. The prices are between f65 and f100.

Frequently men (hard drugs patients) come to his door to sell him bicycles for f25 or less. The same ones asking all the students at the university entrance wether they want to buy a bike. In the room with the white-painted window on the third floor the bicycles are stored. On the small picture he is handing some change to a girl after a deal. Most of the deals are made thursday or friday and sometimes in the weekend. That's because the 'ViaVia' appears thursday mornings. If you can grab some good images, e-mail them to me so I can include them in the animated picture on the left.

The police explained me that it is legally very difficult to prove that the bicycles in his possession are stolen bicycles since very few people declare it when their bicycle is stolen in Amsterdam (the estimate is that about 80% of the roughly 800,000 bikes in Amsterdam have once illegally changed owner). Only when the police can catch him in the act of selling bicycles a case can be made against him. By the way, the phonenumber of the local policedepartment is +31 20 5599111. My street is Van Oldenbarneveldtstraat, the view is from number 40, 2nd floor.

The whole story about my neighbour and my stolen bicycle is in Dutch. It goes like this: he stole my bike, I pointed a webcam at his practises, the mass media reported on this and a website visitor offered me his bike out of pity. In return I gave him the bottle of wine I got to tell my story on a radio-show.
