People's Communication Charter

  • This summer the Society for Old and New Media found a possibility to launch the Tactical Media Network and the Charter during the Documenta, Europe's most important visual art exhibit which will take place in Kassel, Germany, from June 21 until September 28, 1997. From August 8th until the 17th we will have a workspace where we can use all kinds equipment to organize video or computer showings, set up videoconferencing sessions, and online discussions.
  • July 3th Cees Hamelink gives a lecture for the British Community Radio Association regarding the PCC. The CRA organizes a large conference in Westminster regarding community media and the policy of the new government. The conference will be opened by Chris Smith the new minister for broadcasting.
  • National initiatives around the charter: in the US, in the Netherlands, in Germany, in Canada, in Bulgary and South Africa
  • Platform for Cooperation and on Communication and Democratisation founded in London, 1996
  • Ratification of the PCC by the General Assembly of AMARC, the Third World Network World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters
  • International Convention of the Cultural Environment Movement (CEM) in Paris, April 1998
  • 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
